Fun Fact: Penang is also on the list, ranking at number 8!

Blessed with waterfalls, hot springs and forest parks, Langkawi is home to the only site in Southeast Asia that has been granted the UNESCO Geopark status, thanks to its impressive rock formations in its ancient jungle, vast caves with stalactites and stalagmites, sea caves and tunnels as well as interesting wildlife.

Beaming with honor and delight, Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) is grateful for the award and aims to further establish Langkawi to be a renowned world-class tourism destination.

This award is a testament of our continuous efforts and dedication, especially throughout the pandemic when tourist arrival into the island was at its lowest.

While faced with many challenges, we remained optimistic and took it upon ourselves to ensure that the island showed resilience in its journey towards recovery and remain top of mind.

Encik Nasaruddin Abdul Muttalib, Chief Executive Officer of LADA

He further added that their action plan ranges from promoting green, experiential, and responsible tourism to incentives such as duty-free shopping and creating Instagram-worthy spots to ensure that they will be able to retain the title as one of the best islands in Southeast Asia.
