Let’s be honest, shopping for groceries can be quite a daunting task for some of us. Especially for the peeps who still don’t know the difference between scallions and spring onions 😭

Between preparing a list of items to buy, making a trip to the store, going down aisle after aisle in search of that one specific thing you need, and waiting in long lines at the checkout counter — things CAN get a little tedious at times.

And ever since the “new normal” came around, most people probably prefer not to make that physical grocery run and be in a crowd of strangers for far too long.

This is why hypermarkets like Lotus’s Malaysia are doing their best to provide customers with a delightful “phygital” shopping experience both in-store and online.

“It is our vision to increasingly delight our customers with greater convenience and a more personalized shopping experience,” quipped Lotus’s Malaysia President Kenneth Chuah.

After having completely taken over 62 former Tesco stores across the country, Lotus’s is now focused on tinkering with technology to deliver everyday smart delights to everyone.

With the advancement in information technology, we will be better equipped with data to understand our customers’ needs and customize promotions and rewards to individuals even within the same household for a more personalized shopping experience.

So here are four ways how Lotus’s is leading the charge in “phygital” shopping to make our lives as consumers a little better:

1. Lotus’s app

Why go to the trouble of physically walking into a store when all it takes is a few taps on the phone?

The Lotus’s mobile application provides consumers with the convenience of purchasing whatever they need through an easy and intuitive one-stop digital platform that also rewards them with every single purchase they make.

Simply fill your online shopping cart with all the necessary goods that you need and have groceries delivered directly to your location or packed and ready to be picked up at a Lotus’s store of your choice.

The Lotus’s app also conveniently tracks and remembers your shopping habits to provide customers with special promotions, discounts and rewards that are automatically catered to you — so you don’t need to be flicking through those coupons and promo codes to enjoy great savings.

And to make things even more convenient, Lotus’s selection of products are also available on other online marketplaces like Lazada, Shopee, Happy Fresh and Foodpanda, ensuring that you’d always have a way to get your groceries whenever you need them.

2. MyLotus’s loyalty program

By combining both its loyalty program and e-commerce platform into a single app, those who shop at Lotus’s don’t have to go through the trouble of carrying around those easy-to-lose membership cards to make the most out of their purchases.

The MyLotus’s loyalty program comes already integrated into the Lotus’s mobile app, allowing customers to instantaneously collect points and redeem their rewards online or in-store.

These points can then be used to offset purchases made at Lotus’s so customers can enjoy even more savings when they shop.

And just in case you forgot to bring your phone along when you shop in-store, MyLotus’s loyalty program members can conveniently collect and redeem their points simply by providing the cashier with their phone number that’s registered to their account, on the spot.

Members will also have access to special discounts, promos and vouchers that non-members would totally miss out on.

3. Scan & Shop

Although it’s definitely easier to shop online, it can’t be denied that getting a grip on the things you want to buy and placing it into a shopping cart provides a rather different satisfaction altogether.

But sometimes it can be difficult to track down your spending and not go over your shopping budget when you’re wandering wide-eyed through the store.

This is why Lotus’s handy Scan & Shop companion application makes the perfect shopping partner to have on your grocery run.

This app allows shoppers to scan each item they’re purchasing with their phone cameras and automatically record and list down each individual item and the amount that they’re spending as they go.

There are also dedicated lanes for Lotus’s Scan & Shop customers to provide them with a quick and easy checkout at the end of their grocery run.

And for those independent shoppers out there, you can also enjoy a fast and safe fully cashless shopping experience at Lotus’s self-service checkout counters available at 28 Lotus’s stores nationwide.

Simply bring your trolley over to the counter and conveniently check yourselves out by paying with a range of methods including debit and credit cards as well as e-wallets like Boost, kiplePay, GrabPay, Alipay, MCash, MAE, ShopeePay, Touch ‘n Go and UnionPay.

4. Vending machines

Currently available at around 10 different locations nationwide, and with more OTW, Lotus’s line of vending machines gives shoppers a quick and easy way to stock up on snacks and supplies without the hassle of having to walk into a store.

Each vending machine will be stocked full of goodies ranging from Lotus’s own-brand products and other customer favourites depending on consumer needs and the location of the machine itself.

The machine also utilises cashless and contactless payment methods making shopping fast, easy and most importantly, safe.
