From a regular cup of kopi-O to a classic glass of teh tarik, Malaysians simply love the stimulating hit of caffeine as well as the tantalizing taste and aroma of coffee and tea.

Whether it’s drunk hot or cold, the popular beverages blend perfectly together with the melting pot of cultures we have here since the day they were first introduced to our taste buds hundreds of years ago.

Since then, we’ve truly made the drinks into our own – coming up with a menu of delectable libations enjoyed everywhere from the roadside kopitiams to the hipster cafes, and by those who are actively on the go or simply kicking back at home.

And ever since making your own cup of coffee or tea became cheap and easy with the help of professionally crafted instant and premixed products, we’ve managed to share our uniquely Malaysian flavours with the world.

But, like all things, people’s tastes and preferences change over time.

“Consumer taste changes, so you have to catch up with consumer preference,” explained Lotus’s Malaysia Head of Customer Proposition Fariz Yusof.

Since 2003, Lotus’s Malaysia’s recipes for its range of instant premixed hot beverages have been constantly improved according to how Malaysians like to enjoy their drinks.

Instant it may be, but there’s a whole lot of thought and science behind creating the perfect Malaysian blend of premixed coffee and tea.

Fariz shared that their own-brand of products goes through a very strict process to meet quality standards before going on shelves.

We have a PAC or product assessment centre where we have a set panellist that, essentially tell us what they like. We would recruit customers to come in and try out our products and from there, we would know if it’s acceptable or needs improvements in terms of appearance, taste and aroma. Then we would work with our supplier to make it better.

And although the raw material used for their range of hot drinks were sourced from overseas, its exceptional tastes, recipes and production are 100% made-in-Malaysia.

“The formula and recipe are very important,” quipped Datuk Ean Yong Tinsing, the founder and chairman of Orgabio Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, the company that produces and supplies Lotus’s Malaysia’s line of instant premixed beverages.

He boasted that Malaysia’s blend of premixed coffee and tea is a favourite not only in Asia but also across Europe and the Americas.

“You can call it Malaysian 3-in-1 coffee taste. It’s accepted by everyone. Even the mat salleh like it,”  he said with a smile.

With Lotus’s Malaysia being the company’s top 5 customers, he hopes that together they’ll continue giving the world a taste of Malaysia.
