Women are constantly overcoming challenges and battling obstacles.

One battle women still face and sometimes cannot avoid, but can fight, is breast cancer.

Positively Pinktober

In collaboration with Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Malaysia’s leading health and beauty retailer Watsons have teamed up with the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) in creating a support system to Malaysians that breast cancer is not the end by inculcating positive messages.

What better way to instill the message of hopefulness than those who have lived and are living with breast cancer to spread the awareness many still don’t know about.

The team behind Positively Pinktober recently spoke to Kim, Vandana, and Mazwin, three strong women who have looked breast cancer in the face and are now determined to kick the dreaded c-word to the curb.

In the inspiring videos each of these women are featured in, the one thing they all agreed on? Early detection saves lives.

In Mazwin’s video, she speaks candidly about her journey with Positively Pink influencer Marianne Tan.

Here’s her story:

With Stage 2 Breast Cancer, the 41-year old mother of three was told that if anyone could beat cancer, it’s her because she’s strong.

In Mazwin’s case, she accidentally came across a lump on her breast and immediately went to the hospital. The only thing she worried about was her kids.

It was the hardest for my second child because she’s the only daughter and sometimes she would cry at school. She would tell her teacher ‘my mum is sick, she has (breast) cancer’.

Coincidentally, the positive spirit in Mazwin is already in her name “Must Win”. And with her detecting cancer early, along with her fighting spirit, win she must.

Education as a powerful weapon

It’s true what Nelson Mandela once said, education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world, and this resonates on so many levels.

With that, did you know…

The best ways to lower the risk would be to watch the factors you can control:

Become buddies with your bosom

To detect breast cancer early, the best way is to get to know your breasts with a breast self-familiarisation or examination so that when something doesn’t feel right, you know it’s time to consult with a doctor.

Remember, early detection is crucial in saving lives. Do a monthly breast-self examination like the above to be aware of any changes in your breasts.

Show your support, spread awareness, paint the town pink and win!

The time to be Positively Pink is now. Join the #WatsonsPinktoberDance and stand a chance to win Watsons points too.
