Merdeka is almost upon us and Malaysia Day is right around the corner, which means it’s time for Malaysians to really fly our patriotic flag up high.

In a collaboration that surprised us all, Shopee and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) will be screening a series of historical documentaries called Dari Merdeka ke Malaysia on the e-commerce app.

This means that you get to watch the story of how Malaysia gained independence from its colonists and maintained a strong sense of heritage and culture– all while you shop for awesome stuff on Shopee!

Not only that, there will be an animated Merdeka music video featuring six local sellers and their journeys of building an online brand on Shopee. To round off the fully local talents, the lyrics were written and performed by Malaysian rapper Kayda Aziz!

Support your local community

To do its part, Shopee is also rewarding Malaysians during this patriotic time by highlighting local sellers in their #ShopeeSapotLokal movement.

Visitors to the app and site will see a Shop Malaysia Online (SMO) and Go-Ecommerce site takeover for #ShopeeSapotLokal on 31 August and 16 September.

They are also offering additional promotions to encourage buyers to explore local businesses too, to benefit everyone. Special vouchers with discounts of up to 31% will be offered on these two days– so if you have something to buy from a local seller, save that into your cart first!
