A teacher’s earnest desire to help her students sitting for SPM examinations ended in disappointment as only one lone student showed up at the extra class.

The sad tale was told by her son, Ammar, on social media who explained that his mother had organised an extra class for her students, even buying food for them as the school’s canteen was closed.

Ammar told TRP his mother is a respectable Science teacher of 22 years and loves all her students as if they were her own children.

My mother is a very patient and dedicated teacher, even contributing cash from her own pocket to help her class win a school level competition.

Only one student showed up for the class

Ammar explained that his mother had alerted her students in a group chat that there would be an extra class for them the next day, and that she was buying breakfast for everyone.

However, out of the 14 students only a single student showed up despite her waiting almost 2 hours to start the class. She also messaged the group asking where everyone was, still, with no response.

Ammar shared screenshots of his mother’s Whatsapp status, where she sadly states, “Ready with breakfast for my students, no one is here yet.” and “Attendance 1/14” with a crying emoji.

But there’s no hard feelings

In response to this, Ammar captioned his Tweet with disappointment seeing how his mother’s efforts as a teacher went unnoticed and unappreciated.

He shared with TRP that he and his mother both decided to think of it in a positive way, that the students had very good reasons for not showing up, and some of them may have been scared to go due to the pandemic still weaving its way through society.

She gave the remainder of the food to the class next door, also an extra class, and brought 4 home for us so none of it went to waste

“Honestly I felt quite upset when I heard this happened, really, which child wants to see this happen to their own mother?” said Ammar to TRP.

When asked, Ammar’s only message to the SPM candidates of 2020 was, “Do your very best and always respect your teachers. They do extra classes because they care very much for you and strive to give their best to you every day. I pray all 2020 SPM candidates get excellent results and prove that this pandemic is not a deterrent for success.”

The tweet has thus far gained 26,300 retweets and 41,600 likes, with plenty of sympathetic comments for the teacher.
