The British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM is aimed at supporting women who wish to pursue their master’s degree in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) field.

The scholarship is available for any STEM master’s degree from the University of Glasgow, Liverpool John Moores University, or University of Stirling. It is a full scholarship that will cover tuition fees, monthly stipend, travel costs, visa, and health coverage fees. Mothers with dependant children will be able to receive special support.

This ambitious scholarship will be open to women with dependants who have never previously studied in the UK.

The aim behind such a scholarship is to support women who may want to but cannot afford to pursue further studies in a STEM field.

Data taken from the UN Scientific Education and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) shows that fewer than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Globally, only 30% of female students choose to pusue their master’s degree in the STEM field. Additionally, enrolment is especially dismal in Information and Communications Technology (3%); natural science, mathematics and statistics (5%); and engineering, manufacturing, and construction (8%).

Hence, the British Council aims to support 100 women from the Americas, South Asia, and East Asia to pursue an advanced degree in the STEM field to further develop their careers in the scientific fields.

The East Asian region will have 15 scholarships available. Malaysian applicants will have to apply alongside applicants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
