Will CMCO Be Extended? Malaysians Frustrated Over Consistently Last-Minute Announcements

The current Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was originally announced to last until 27 October, which is tomorrow.

However, this time, working-from-home was made mandatory. This announcement came halfway into the CMCO with scarce details, causing confusion among the workforce in terms of who actually can travel to their workplaces.

Employers were given little time to prepare letters and circulars for their employees regarding company decisions before such decisions were announced.

Now that we are nearing the end of the original CMCO, the question these employers are asking is whether the CMCO will be extended?

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob noted a few days ago that the announcement on extension will be made today, one day before the original end date.

However, employers are frustrated with the last-minute announcements as it will give them no time to prepare for changes.

The CMCO also applied to schools and educational institutions. Teachers and lecturers were required to work from home to conduct online classes.

However, if the CMCO ends as planned tomorrow, they will need to reorganize all learning material to be taught physically in schools again.

Yet as of now, parents, teachers, students, and schoolchildren are still unsure if they should start preparing for the return back to physical learning.

Those affected by the CMCO are stuck in a state of nervous waiting. Like they say, ripping off the bandaid quickly is the most painless way to remove it.

Looks like we’ll just have to wait.
