The ongoing pandemic has spurred a wave of online shopping and the huge 9.9 sales on 9 September just showed us exactly how big it is.

Lazada Malaysia announced that it broke new ground in e-commerce retail by smashing its 2019 9.9 sales record with astoundingly high volume of purchases.

The e-commerce platform witnessed double growth in the Health & Beauty, as well as Kitchen & Dining categories while the Groceries category saw a 280% growth in demand during the sale compared to 2019.

For instance, Lazada’s newly appointed Chief Discount Officer (CDO) Ain Edruce established a sales record by selling over 4,000 Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 in less than 8 minutes.

Lazada’s Chief Discount Officer Show livestream during the sales also recorded 580,000 views and 72,000 engagements in just three and a half hours,or an impressive 400 engagements per minute.

The success of the Chief Discount Officer Show is truly remarkable for Lazada as well as the industry. It goes to show that Malaysians are embracing livestream commerce and livestream is becoming the mainstream.

But with so many people online, what exactly were they buying?

Well, Lazada recorded that Malaysians were especially fond of washing their clothes with one ton of detergent powder sold in 21 minutes.

Fitness was also a key highlight with over 1600 kg of health supplements were also sold, and yoga mats were the big seller in the Sports & Outdoor category.
