5 Talented Local Photographers Under 30

Tired of how repetitive your Instagram feed looks like? We mean come on, there’s only so many ways you can take pictures of your food!

Being a primarily photo-based platform, photographers have been using Instagram as a way of showcasing their portfolio to the world.

We recently took a gander and found these 5 inspiring Malaysian photographers that deserved more than just a ‘double tap’ on their work!

1. Daniel Adams, 23 (@danieladamsphotography)

Adams is no stranger to the world of photography and even made headlines back in 2017 with his powerful messages through his photography.

“A Love Once Lost” is his series of dealing with the emotions that came with the loss of his mother, which has been a project that Adams has been working on for the past 2 years.

2. Catherhea Teoh, 29 (@dreamersrehab)

Teoh describes her style as “woke vogue”; an elegant approach towards issues that usually touch on underrepresented forms of beauty.

Teoh’s recent series “The Thique Clique”, which features gorgeous plus sized Malaysian women, gained international attention as well!

3. John Kam, 20  (@cvpturesjohn)

Kam’s work is straight out of a wonderland. Serving you both the glamour and horror of fantasy, Kam’s vision and natural whimsical nature is what gives all of his photos an extra magical touch.

“Membawang” is a series by him that pays tribute to all the faces that have inspired his work and his process as a photographer, all while nodding to our Malaysian roots.

4. Szeyuin Chan, 25 (@szeyuin)

Muted pastels are how Chan drinks you in with her photography. The soft and eclectic style of this photographer hooks you into her work.

Playing with warm tones, Chan picks up inspiration from a wide variety of styles. She also has the ability to capture the raw emotion in her subject’s eyes especially well.

5. Euri Erfe, 21 (@emajor)

Erfe is also a new-comer on the scene, but one can’t quite tell from the quality of their work.

One of their works, “A Tribute to Rock Royalty, Queen”, was born out of inspiration from Bohemian Rhapsody and their own personal love for Freddie Mercury.

Looks like the creatives in Malaysia are a-booming! While these photos will make your feed a lot more interesting to look at, it’s important to remember to support our local talents!

The next time you find yourself needing some new headshots for your LinkedIn, some portraits of you and your loved ones or just something new to spice up your Instagram page; try checking out some of our own up and coming photographers!

And who knows? Maybe you’ll be able to find that inner model in you the moment you start posing in front of that camera. 😉
