The viral petition was recently started by Brian Johnson Lowe, vice president of the Arts, Live Festival and Events Association (ALIFE), a non-profit organization founded with the aim to be the voice of the arts and cultural scene here in the country.
The online petition calls for Malaysians to voice their appetite and yearning for entertainment, asking like-minded locals to stand up against the constant pressures and negativity imposed by numerous groups and authorities towards arts and culture, concerts and festivals events here in the country.
“During the launch of Visit Malaysia 2020 held on the 22nd of July 2019, our Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had responded to a question from a reporter regarding these cancellations saying ‘it does not represent the voice of the nation, but the people also need to make their voices heard’.â€
“In response to this, we are calling on the community of arts and culture, concert and festival patrons to sign this petition as our way of showing unity in our voice and for it to be heard.â€
“Our target is to obtain at least 100,000 signatures.â€

The petition request for the government to;
- Acknowledge that the public wants more arts and culture, concert and festival activities to take place in Malaysia.
- Not cave into the request minority as the false voice of the nation.
- Improve the current policy and regulatory framework, allowing more arts and culture, life festival and concert events to take place in the country.
Currently live on the global civic organizing hub, Change.org, the petition has thus far gained nearly 7,000 sign-ups (at the time of this writing) from Malaysians supportive of the idea.
If you’ve complained about the lack of concerts, festivals, or any arts and culture events in Malaysia – do sign and share. Won’t take more than a minute.

Recently, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had asked Malaysians to protest and fight against those who are opposed to concerts or shows in the country stating that these people do not represent the larger opinion of the nation.
Would you like to have more arts and culture, concerts, shows, gigs, festivals and events here in Malaysia?
