Angry ‘Utagha’ man goes off on a rant about stagnant wages in Malaysia
Is the Malaysian economy in shambles? We aren’t economists so we wouldn’t really know. But it sure feels that way doesn’t it?
Turns out, a lot of Malaysians feel this way too. Especially this man who went off on a Twitter rant about it.
So 19 tahun lepas nasik goreng harganya RM1.50-RM2 and gaji kebiasaannya rm1500-2000. Sekarang pulak nasik goreng harganya RM5-RM6.50 patutnya gaji RM5000-6500 la kan? Entahlah aku ni bodo matematik, tapi aku rasa harga barang ja dok naik tapi gaji masih ikut takuk lama kan?

“So, 19 years ago fried rice cost RM1.50-RM2 and median salary was RM1,500-RM2,000. Now, fried rice costs RM5-RM6.50. So, median salary should be RM5,000-RM6,500 right? I don’t know. My math is bad. But I feel like the cost of things keep rising while salary remains the same”
We have no idea what is going on in Twitter user Si Injang’s (@InjangNation) life. But, man do we #relate!
Lepaihtu kita dituduh tak pandai manage duit, generasi pemalas, sedangkan si tua kutuk ni semua yang kerja kerajaan gaji dengan gred dah tinggi-tinggi lepastu pemalas, tak pencen-pencen, takmau belajaq guna komputer, tolak tugas, rumah dengan kereta berbijik2
— Si Injang (@InjangNation) July 1, 2019
“And then, we get accused of not knowing how to manage our finances. Meanwhile, the lazy generation, those old bad-mouthers, are all employed by the government, sitting in high positions. They don’t ever retire, they don’t want to learn how to use the computer, they just push their responsibilities onto others while they have houses and several cars.”
Kalau gaji kita dibayar setimpal dengan kenaikan harga barang sebenaqnya generasi kita tak perlu hidup merana sampai nak beli rumah susah, nak kahwin susah, nak beranak pun kena pikiaq kos dulu, tapi apa sudah jadi?
— Si Injang (@InjangNation) July 1, 2019
“If our salary was paid according to the increase of the cost of living, our generation wouldn’t have to suffer until we can barely afford housing, getting married. Even starting a family has us thinking about the cost. But what has happened, exactly?”
Harga rumah naik sebab harga barang naik, tapi sebenarnya bukan harga rumah yang tak masuk akai, tapi gaji kita yang tak masuk akai. Harga barang ikut tahun 2019, gaji dibayar macam tahun 2000 mana la tak gila. Org muda buat sampai 2,3 kerja pun masih tak cukup nak hidup
— Si Injang (@InjangNation) July 1, 2019
“Housing costs have increased because the cost of materials have increased. But it’s not the cost of housing that’s illogical. It’s our wages that’s illogical. The cost of materials follow that of 2019, but our wages are paid like it’s still the year 2000. Why wouldn’t we be crazy? Young adults are working 2-3 jobs. Yet, we’re still living paycheck to paycheck.”
Setiap kali aku nampak motor grabfood atau food panda aku sentiasa terbayang betapa strugglenya generasi kita dek melayankan ketamakan dan kerenah generasi sebelum kita. Kita nak beli rumah sebijik pun tak mampu, generasi sebelum rumah utk anak sorang satu, sewakan kat kita satu
— Si Injang (@InjangNation) July 1, 2019
“Every time I see those GrabFood or foodpanda delivery guys, I always think about how our generation struggles to entertain the greed and whims of the generation before us. We can barely afford to buy one house. Yet, the generation before us can buy one house for each of their kids, plus one more to rent out to us.”
Maka benarlah bak kata Mahatma Gandhi
“The world has enough for everyone’s needs, but not everyone’s greed”
Kalau kita dapat kemewahan dan bayaran yang setimpal mcm generasi sebelum kita, tak perlu pun kita struggle buat sampai 2,3 kerja semata2 nak survive
— Si Injang (@InjangNation) July 1, 2019
“Therefore, Mahatma Ghandi was right.
“The world has enough for everyone’s needs, but not everyone’s greed”
If we had the luxury and appropriate wages like the generation before us, we wouldn’t have to work 2-3 jobs just to survive.”
Tak logik sebenaqnya nak hidup tahun 2019 gaji RM1500. Tak logik tapi masih wujud dan itulah hakikat dan realiti kehidupan kita sekarang. Kalau yang gaji 3-4k pun rasa terjerut, bayangkan yang 1500 tu. Makan apa la wei. Belum kira sakit demam lagi.
— Si Injang (@InjangNation) July 1, 2019
“It’s really illogical to live in 2019 with a salary of RM1,500. It doesn’t make any sense, yet this is the reality of living in these times. Those earning RM3-4k already feel the pinch, imagine those earning RM1,500. How do they feed themselves. And we haven’t even included the cost of medicine yet.”
Orang muda takkan boleh survive selagi yang memerintah adalah golongan tua kutuk yang masing-masing dah selesa atas takhta dibiayai account empuk masing-masing. Harta depa, sembilan belas keturunan makan pun belum tentu habih. Gaji kita, seminggu pun dah nak dekat habih.
— Si Injang (@InjangNation) July 1, 2019
“Young adults will not survive as long as those who lead us are the old bad-mouthers who are sitting comfortably on their throne, funded by their fat bank accounts. Their wealth would last at least nineteen generations below them. While we’re at the brink of our salary after just a week.”
Twitterjaya was like #PREACHBROTHER!
Org lama ckp:
“ah kau, baru kja, pengalaman takda demand lebih..
Kami dlu kja gaji kecik jgak. Dulu mana ada kerja gaji 1.5k – 2.5k.. Aku tau la aku kerja lagi lama dri kau..
Gaji 2k tak syukur. Hidup jugak kan”
Padu sial kna. 🤦♂️ Dia ingt skrng 2k bole senang ke. Haha

Betul la. Boleh tak kerajaan buat rule baru. Umur 45 pencen, tapi dah ada aset, rumah and kenderaan. Duit simpanan ada dlm bank. Dapat la anak muda kerja. Betul la. Ni dah makin tua makin banyak pulak hutang siap tukar2 kereta. Mana tak mau pencenya. Hmmm
