There was a time when the largest convenience store chain in the world, 7-Eleven, would announce a Bring-Your-Own-Cup (BYOC) Day where customers can bring their own container to fill up with sweet frozen Slurpee, and Malaysia was not left out as outlets here have done BYOC Days in the past.
Through the campaign, customers would get five percent off their Slurpee if they brought their own cup.
Of course, there were rules set as to how big your cup can be, but Malaysians tend to get creative when they’re offered discounts or freebies.
People used to go wild on BYOC Day in Malaysia, bringing outrageous “cups” to get as much Slurpee as they can to enjoy at a discounted price.
One example was back in 2016, when 7-Eleven customers brought containers such as:
2-liter water bottle

An umbrella

An aquarium

A pitcher

A bucket

A large glass jar

A motorcycle top box

When is 7-Eleven’s BYOC Day?
The store would normally announce BYOC Day just a few days before it actually happens via its social media accounts, and there’s no set date for it.
In the US, the BYOC promotion would be expected to fall on dates like 11 July or 7/11 as per their calendar date format, and sometimes they’ll announce it on 7 July or 7/7.
Sadly, 7-Eleven Malaysia told TRP that the five percent off for their BYOC campaign concluded on 31 December, 2024. Nevertheless, many are hopeful that the promotion will return one day.
For now, all we can do is keep an eye on 7-Eleven’s social media accounts and wait for the day we get the chance to bring a rice cooker to the nearest store.
