The US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur recently shared a stunning picture of Malaysia taken from the International Space Station in 2016.

The picture showed a massive lightning strike inside a thunderstorm system.

It’s easy to forget we live on a living, breathing planet until you see it from this angle. Whether you’re under the storm or above it, the view is spectacular.

US Embassy Kuala Lumpur wrote on Facebook

While the post marvelled at nature’s power, Malaysians in the comments had other thoughts.

Just two weeks ago, the United States captured Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores and transported the pair to the US to face criminal charges in federal court related to drug trafficking and drug terrorism.

Rumours however claim Trump was interested in Venezuela’s oil reserves, so Malaysians jokingly told the US Embassy that Malaysia doesn’t have oil.

Facebook users continued the cover story by sharing that we have other oils instead like Saji cooking oil, minyak gamat (made from sea cucumbers), and leech and mudskipper oil (allegedly good for men’s sexual health).

They also reminded the embassy to tell everyone that Malaysians still live on trees and in caves (so there’s nothing of interest here, ok?)

Some leaned in on the joke and claimed the bright lights in the picture are actually bonfires Malaysians built to ward off wild animals while they sleep in trees.

However, another user said the lights is actually balan-balan, a vampiric, female flying ghost Borneans use to fly to Peninsular Malaysia. If you don’t believe us, someone else attested to the ghost’s speed and efficiency.
