Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh met her fans at the ‘Pride of Malaysia Michelle Yeoh Homecoming Public Fan Meet’ yesterday (18 April) at 4 pm at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

According to CNA, it took Michelle over half an hour to walk the longest red carpet to reach the stage at Pavilion Mall as she politely obliged her fans with selfies & autographs.

Just before that, around noon, Michelle made an appearance for the media at Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur for her ‘Michelle Yeoh, The Pride of Malaysia Homecoming Press Conference.’

As reported by FMT, she expressed how great it was for her to be back in Malaysia and continued to list a few Malaysian food gems she ate such as Curry Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Nga Choi Kay (Ipoh’s famous beansprout chicken) and Hor Fun.

“That’s why I look so fat,” she joked.

There, she said that she is considering to take more new challenges in her career such as becoming a producer but not directing. According to her, directors have no life and she loves her life too much to do that.

Michelle loves producing. She has produced before and is deciding to do so again now as more people have started to listen and appreciate what she brings.

She also told her fans and young actors out there to follow their dreams and not be afraid of challenges.

Don’t become me. Be you.

I believe that you’re born to be better. Having won the Oscar was a beacon of hope for all of us. It shows that it can be done, and all of you can do it.

Don’t be me. Be you.

As for her golden Oscars trophy, she said that she was going to let her mother keep it for a while.

Besides that, she also mentioned how being a Malaysian played an integral part in how and what she came to be.

The beauty of Malaysia is that we are multiracial. That has made me such an international, global person.

Being brought up in an environment like that, has made me into a more open, giving and accepting person.

In fact, I think that is the one thing that we should do for eachother, accept what we are.

As for future plans, Michelle said she’ll return to Malaysia again in July after her filming of Wicked the movie settles in London.

She hopes to help lift the local film industry one day and is expressing plans to work with Finas, as reported by CNA.

When you make a movie, it should be global.

I know there are amazing filmmakers from this part of our world.

We just have to create platforms that will showcase their talent.
