Syabira Yusoff, a Malaysian-born home baker has bagged first place in 2022’s Great British Bake Off.
The 32-year-old Cardiovascular Research Associate based in London joined the 13th series of the show earlier this September and managed to compete against 12 bakers from all over the UK.
From 10 episodes of the show, Syabira managed to win the Star Baker three times for Halloween Week, Custard Week and Pastry Week. A Star Baker is sort of an achievement for every episode where you’re the best among others in that particular week only.
Yesterday on November 15 (on the finale of the show), Syabira managed to beat Rehman Sharif, 29 and Sandro Farmhouse, 30 for the number one title.
According to CNA, for the finale, they were tasked to create a summer picnic using seasonal ingredients from across the UK, excluding meats. The theme of the week was sustainability.
For the next technical challenge, they had to bake a “summer pudding bombe” and for the showstopper challenge, they had to design an edible sculpture of Our Beautiful Planet.
Although her creation collapsed in the technical round, she made a comeback to the next round by creating a huge Orang Utan sculpture holding up his rainforest home.
After her name was announced as the winner of the show, she beamingly told how her win was the “biggest achievment in my life”.
I’m coming out as a new person after this competition, I became more confident and I trust my instinct.
