Have any of you climbed Mount Kinabalu before? Hah? Only once aaa? Hah. Lemah.

This guy climbed the mountain 12 times! And twice of them were while he was wearing a full Iron Man costume. Kau ade?

Some of us can’t even climb the office stairs (yeap, that’s us) let alone Mount Kinabalu. TWICE.

This guy is the real MVP!

Yohan Charles Jayasuriya is a Sabahan cosplayer who likes to cosplay different characters for events or private functions. He is also a freelance DJ and emcee, sound, light and karaoke supplier, and talent as well as clown services provider. Well, it’s safe to say that he’s a multitasker when it comes to event entertainment.

Recently, he went up the 4,101-metre mountain as a part of the 10th annual Mt. Kinabalu expedition, held by an NGO called Coalition Duchenne.

This was apparently his second time ascending the mountain in his full Iron Man costume.

The first time was back in July 2020, but it was a failed attempt. Minus this, he had already climbed the mountain 11 times successfully, both for fun and some for competitions.

This time around, he finally completed his quest and he also did it to support Duchenne syndrome or DMD, a genetic disorder that affects the muscles, prevalent in young boys.

This climb was actually to create awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

At the same time, it was a chance for me to finally complete the attempt that I set out to do back in July 2020, which is to be the first cosplayer in my ironman suit to climb Mount Kinabalu from the start to summit and back.

The only instances where I took off my ironman suit were during meal times, bathroom breaks and sleep.

Besides creating awareness of the disease, he also hopes for his achievement to be in the Malaysian Book Of Records.

What is DMD?

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disease that occurs primarily in males (may affect females too in rare cases) and affects the muscles. It starts early in their childhood and muscles get weak and worsen (less flexible) over time.

Coalition Duchenne is a non-profit organization that raises global awareness and funding for Duchenne muscular dystrophy through donations and various annual fundraising events. They have done multiple expeditions on Mount Kinabalu before and this is their 10th time doing so.
