Since the pandemic has made our Instagram feeds a little bland, having TeamLab’s light art exhibit in Malaysia might be just what we need to jumpstart our social posts.
teamLab, an international art collective from Japan, is bringing its popular light art installations to Mitsui Shopping Park Lalaport Bukit Bintang City Centre (Lalaport BBCC) in Kuala Lumpur.
It’ll be teamLab’s first major outdoor exhibition in Malaysia (so all of you better be on your best behaviour and not destroy it!).
The light art exhibit, ‘Resonating Microcosms,’ will be open to the public from 4 August to 30 November 2022. And get this, admission is free!
teamLab’s artworks often inspire a sense of wonder in an immersive environment by combining art, science, technology and the natural world.
Based on teamLab’s official website, it’ll be an outdoor exhibit at the mall’s Central Rooftop Garden on Level 4.
There’ll be two art installations: ‘Resonating Microcosms – Liquefied Light Color, Sunrise and Sunset’ and ‘Resonating Trees.’
The first features colourful ovoid sculptures that can change into a total of 57 newly-defined Liquefied Light Colors.
During the day, the shiny silver surface of the ovoids will reflect the world around them.
Guests can interact with the ovoids via touch and see the ovoids change colours and emit sounds in unison. It’ll be as if you got transported into another fairy tale realm.
Surrounding the ovoid exhibit are coloured trees making up the ‘Resonating Trees’ installation.
These colourful trees will blink with coloured lights in reaction to the presence of people. It’ll also emit sounds as guests walk by.
The exhibit will open daily from 10am to 10pm. Since it’s a light-based exhibit, it’s probably best to come in the evening so you can experience the art installations in both day and night.
teamLab has held numerous exhibitions worldwide, including in New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Silicon Valley, Beijing and Melbourne.
They have also set up large-scale permanent exhibitions in Shanghai, Macao, Tokyo, and Singapore.
Previously, teamLab presented the MoonLab Sketch Aquarium children’s interactive digital game at Aquaria KLCC in 2014.
