[Watch] Koi Fish Swims Freely Around Your Feet In This Sabah Cafe

Do you like fish to the point of swimming with them? If you do, then this cafe in Papar, Sabah is the place for you!

Okay, we don’t mean swimming with them as in freestyle swimming, we meant that this cafe lets you dine in with koi fish swimming underneath your tables!

A TikTok video uploaded a day ago by @edholidaystravel, has garnered 435 K views and 34 K likes, showing a place in Papar where diners eat with Koi fish swimming around their feet.

In the video, a part of the cafe floor is made into a small pool and is filled with a few tables and chairs. You can see Koi fish swimming underneath the tables and chairs.

Customers can also step into the shallow pool dining area given that they wash their feet thoroughly before entering.

This concept actually looks a bit like the fish pedicure or fish spa, a type of foot treatment where the small Garra Rufa fish eat away dead skin found on people’s feet, leaving newer skin exposed. They’re native to the Middle East where people with skin diseases like psoriasis use this as a medical treatment.

However, we don’t think these Koi’s find our feet tasty…

Netizens were amused and interested at the same time

Not only were they shocked by the idea of the first Koi Pond Cafe in Malaysia, but most netizens also joked about accidentally stepping on the fish and how easy it is to get an insurance claim.

Some also wondered what would happen if leftover food or drinks were accidentally dropped in the pool.

One user even joked if they needed to mop the cafe when it was closing time.

However, others were worried if it’s hygienic and safe

The concept is unique

Located at the Benoni Commercial Centre in Papar, Sabah, this cafe just opened this year in March and it already went viral among the locals during the first month of its opening.

Since then, a lot of people were interested in this new Koi Fish Pond Cafe concept and decided to give this place a try.

There are only like three to five tables in the pool spot. Only the lucky ones get to feel those premium fish splashing away by their feet.

Here’s what you can try at the cafe

Besides dipping your toes in the Koi Fish Pool, you should also give this cafe’s food a try.

They mainly serve western food here and some of their suggested meals are Grill Lamb Chop, Grilled Chicken Chop, Hot Chicken Burger and Hot Beef Burger (the patties are homemade).
