Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s iconic Menara TM is on the market for an undisclosed amount.

An image of a for-sale advertisement in StarBiz was shared by a netizen on Twitter and it received plenty of attention.

According to The Edge Markets, the closing date for the first stage of the sale is 18 March at 12 pm.

The reactions from netizens ranged from bewilderment to humour.

Not many people expected the tower to be up for sale and moreover, there wasn’t a starting price. Interested buyers are encouraged to quote a price.

As a result, some netizens were curious about the price of a tower too.

Others joked that someone should buy the tower and transform it into a real-life Avengers Tower featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

A few suggested that people from the kampung should crowdfund and make Menara TM their staycation home when they visit the city.

The iconic tower has been compared for its similarity to the Stark Tower, later transformed into the Avengers Tower, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In 2018, Menara TM added the Avengers logo on its façade in collaboration with Marvel Malaysia as a tie-in for the launch of Avengers: Infinity War in cinemas.

Pictures of the tower temporarily being transformed into the Avengers Tower excited many people and it went viral online.

History of the tower

Menara TM is a 55-storey freehold tower designed by Hijjas Kasturi Associates and developed by Telekom Research & Development Sdn Bhd.

The tower was completed in 2001 and officially launched in 2003 by then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. It also holds a Multimedia Super Corridor status.

Located along Jalan Pantai Baharu, Kuala Lumpur, it took US$160 million to build back then.
