Malaysia’s festive seasons wouldn’t be complete without some chirpy and cheery audio-visual entertainment to commemorate the occasion and invoke some much-wanted nostalgia.

This year, Maxis showcased a colourful mix of the old and new with their latest entry to Malaysia’s evergrowing CNY video ad playlist with their short film titled “Make Our Luck”.

The video features a family who endeavours to make their lunar new year celebrations extra “huat” and share the experience together with strangers.

At the start of the film, we follow a young boy named Didi on his journey back to his “Gong-Gong” or grandfather’s home that the latter turned into a cosy inn or homestay for guests.

However, because of the recent pandemic, Gong-Gong has been struggling to fill in bookings.

Not to be deterred, the elderly man went all out on decorating his humble “Lucky Homestay” in an effort to ring in some luck for the festive holidays.

Being an old fashioned sorta’ guy, Gong-Gong believes that lavishing his home with CNY decorations would bring good “feng shui” and welcome more guests to stay over.

But, his young and techno-savvy grandson proposed a different idea in attracting people by making his grandfather’s inn go viral on social media.

Thus began the “kung fu” battle between the seasoned senior and the jovial junior to see whose got what it takes to bring on good luck, fortune, health and visitors to the homestay.

The pair soon realises that it takes the combined spirit of tradition and the convenience of modern technology to open the doors of auspiciousness.

Together they learn that the best kind of luck happens when people forge ahead together hand-in-hand, combining the wisdom of the old and some new-age gumption.

Maxis is ringing in the festive season with the amalgamation of tradition and technology through its festive film ‘Make Our Luck’ and special livestream sessions with the renowned Datuk Joey Yap, Founder and Chief Consultant of Joey Yap Consulting Group, on ‘How to Make Our Luck’ for 2022.

A big adopter of tech and digitalisation, Joey Yap’s ways of feng shui consultation requires one to take action beyond placing an ornament or wearing a lucky colour.

The first livestream session on 10 Feb at 8:30pm on Maxis’ Facebook page is open to all, while the second livestream session on 11 Feb at 8.30pm is exclusively for Maxis’ SME customers, where they stand a chance to win a one-on-one Business Coaching session with Joey Yap’s team of consultants.
