To an average citizen like you and me, Spotify Wrapped 2020 allows us to look back into the music and podcasts that gave us the distraction amidst this “glorious” year.

However, for the creators, especially our national favorites that provided us with such relief, this list allows them to look into the number of faithful fans, that have honored their talents through countless hours of streaming through songs and podcasts.

Overall, Spotify Wrapped 2020 allows creators and listeners nationwide to celebrate the victories of being most streamed from the beginning to the end of 2020.

Malaysian singer and icon Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza once again tops the list for Malaysia’s Most-Streamed Local Artist of 2020, making this her third year of being number 1 since 2017 and 2018.

Coming in second is our local hip-hop group K-Clique followed by singer Faizal Tahir, YonnyBoii and Naim Daniel, respectively.

Additionally, “Sakit” by YonnyBoii, Zynakal made to the top of Malaysia’s Most Streamed Local Songs, with “Mimpi (feat. Alif)” by ALYPH, K-Clique coming in at number two and “Sumpah” by Naim Daniel at number three.

Rise of Podcasts

Besides our local talent, podcasts has also made a name for itself for the very first time in Malaysia.

One popular podcast would be the Mamak Sessions, a podcast discussing average day to day occurrences (like a group of friends would when drinking “teh tarik” at a mamak shop).

Another Malaysian favorite is the The Aida Azlin Show, which focuses on a series of laid-back conversations on anything and everything between Malaysian writer, Aida and her weekly special guests.

Citizens have also been tuning in for other podcasts genres such as Lifestyle & Health, Society & Culture and Religion & Spirituality for their daily dose on health and spiritual well-being.

In terms of Malaysia’s Most-Streamed Artist of 2020, iconic K-Pop group BTS makes it to number 1, with Justin “Yummy” Bieber and BLACKPINK in the second and third spots.
