Throughout the whole of the Covid-19 pandemic, plenty of people have fallen onto desperate times. Malaysians banded together to support fellow Malaysians, whether that means our hawker stalls or small home-based businesses.

That passion to help others makes a real change for our struggling fellow Malaysians, like this homeless single father of 2 young girls.

Known as 好爸 (“Hao Ba“, literally translated to ‘Good Father’), he used to sell fried dough fritters (yau char kway or you tiao) in Johor Jaya before moving to Selangor in hopes that the bigger city would mean better sales and income.

The sole caregiver of two daughters, the oldest aged 10 years old and the younger one 6 years old, notes that a single father caring for two girls isn’t easy.

Additionally, with the Covid-19 pandemic, he had no income and didn’t even have money to feed his children.

Yet despite his destitute situation, he refuses monetary donations.

Instead, in a heartfelt and hopeful post, he asks for support for his fried dough fritters business. He claims that he just needs to make enough to rent a home, buy milk powder for his children, and be able to feed them three meals a day.

He said that he was lucky to meet a generous coffeeshop owner and benefactors who helped him set up his fried dough fritters stall in Seri Kembangan.

Since the original post highlighting his plight had gone viral, Hao Ba You Tiao has seen plenty of community support, with long lines of customers standing apart, waiting to buy his fried dough fritters.

Those interested can find him here:
Restoran Peng Chu (南城美食中心)13, Jalan SP 2/3, Taman Serdang Perdana, 43300 Seri Kembangan, Selangor

He operates his stall from 7am until he sells out, usually around 12 noon.
