It can be said that the best of humanity shines in times of crisis.
With some areas in East Malaysia struggling with food and supply problems due to the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) and the overall Covid-19 pandemic, a number of generous households in Penampang, Sabah endeavor to lessen the burdens of their community by offering the public free fruits and vegetables.
Images of pre-packed groceries hung up on metal fences and piles of farmed greens displayed in front of modest, wooden kampung houses have gone viral on social media, warming the hearts of many Malaysians who were blown away by such acts of unselfish kindness.
The humble donors provided a selection of cooked meals, veggies, fruits and dried salted fish accompanied by cardboard signs telling those would need the fresh goods to take-away one for themselves and their families.
The posting also managed to attract the attention of Karanaan assemblyman Datuk Masidi Manjun who was equally gleeful of the philanthropy shown by citizens in his neighboring constituency.
Villagers in one kampung in Penampang, Sabah is offering free veggies & fruits to the public. They place them outside the fencing of their house, anyone in need can take one item for free. Commendable act of charity during this difficult time. #Covid19 pic.twitter.com/wc4yAWqfdo
