Your entire life changes the moment you find out you’re pregnant. This may include something as simple as your skin care products.

Although it’s difficult to abandon your favourite skin care routine, we know you’ll go to any lengths to keep your child safe.

Maintaining clear and healthy skin is essential. However, do avoid these skincare ingredients!

1. Retinoid

Keep away from retinoids, retinol, and any other vitamin A-derived products. Don’t overlook your “anti-ageing” skincare products.

There are case reports of birth abnormalities related to topical tretinoin usage.

According to Healthline, there are other antioxidants in skin care products that are safe to use during pregnancy :

  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin K
  • Vitamin B3
  • Green tea

2. Hydroquinone

The amount of hydroquinone that is absorbed into the circulation is rather high. As a result, it poses a significant risk to the newborn because it has the potential to be absorbed into the baby’s body.

3. Salicylic acid

Beta-hydroxy acid is another name for salicylic acid (BHA). Cleansers, toners, and exfoliants are typical places to look for this ingredient. It is possible for this substance to produce salicylism, often known as ringing in the ears, as well as nausea and vomiting.

4. Parabens

Much like hydroquinone, parabens are able to make their way into your bloodstream. An elevated level of paraben in the bloodstream has been linked to an increased risk of cancer.

When it comes to picking skincare products, expectant moms need to exercise caution so that they don’t expose their unborn children to any potential dangers. Before purchasing and using any skincare product, you should always read the label first.
