Kedah Health Director Dr Othman Wirajo confirmed that “patient zero”, who sparked the Telaga 2 cluster, was a patient who was being treated for a kidney disorder.

The patient was said to have dodged the initial Covid-19 test. 73 infections later, the patient was caught after a routine screening.

By then 32 other patients, 23 medical staffers, 4 support crew, and 14 relatives were Covid-19 positive.

15 patients required ventilation support and 5 are in intensive care.

Overall, 22 patients remained hospitalised, including one support staff as a precaution due to her pregnancy.

10 deaths were also recorded from the cluster so far.

Dr Othman said, the ward at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, where it happened, has since been closed for sanitisation, while haemodialysis services for outpatients have resumed as normal.

Those under the continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis have been relocated to the diabetic resource centre.
