Half of Malaysian adults will be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by Merdeka.

With 59% of the population having already received their first vaccine shot, National Covid-19 Immunization Program (PICK) Minister Khairy Jamaluddin is positive that Malaysia is on target to fully vaccinate 50% of denizens over the age of 18 by 31 August 2021.

Currently, 29% of the country’s adults have completed both vaccine doses, and as of 1 August, around 13.8 million people have gotten their first jabs while another 6.7 million have been fully vaccinated.

Malaysia had in July begun to ramp up PICK following the emergence of new Covid-19 variants.

The PM previously mentioned that we are aiming to completely vaccinate 100% of our adult population by October and;

  • Have every adult in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor vaccinated with one dose on 1 August.
  • Vaccinate every adult in Sarawak with one dose by the end of August.
  • Reach a total vaccination rate of 50% in all states across the country by the end of August.
  • Reach a total vaccination rate of 70% nationwide in September.

Khairy added that the government was also reviewing new ‘relaxed’ standard operating procedures (SOP) for people who’ve been completely vaccinated and any updates will soon be announced by the Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Md. Yasin.
