This 2019 Photo Of KL Skyline Was So ‘Magical’ People Thought It Was Fake

You may have seen this magical photograph of Kuala Lumpur with Genting Highlands in the background and the Petronas Twin Towers in front.

It first appeared on Facebook in 2019 and has been popping up here and there ever since.

Most people on social media were surprised by how close Genting appears to Kuala Lumpur with some even calling it a fake.

But the guy who took the photo, 26-year old Tan Jun Hong, explained that part of the reason is something called lens compression which was achieved with special equipment.

I’ve been wanting to shoot this photo for years now. A zoom lens was what I lacked. As soon as I got the lens, luck was on my side as soon I encountered with this stunning view.

Tan says the composition is unedited and he only used Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for some basic enhancement and tone adjustment.

He took the picture from a private residence somewhere near Bukit Jalil, explaining that he set the camera up for a time-lapse and went to watch Game of Thrones season 8, episode 3.

Tan says his parents bought him his first camera when he was 15 and he learnt how to use it through his uncle and YouTube videos.
