Non-Covid Patients In Public Hospitals Are Being Transferred To Private Hospitals

In a bid to make more space for Covid-19 patients in public healthcare, patients in Klang Valley public hospitals who are NOT being treated for Covid-19 are to be transferred to private hospitals immediately, as reported by MalaysiaKini today (21 July).
The government directive came into force yesterday (20 July) according to a letter addressed to Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) president Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh from Health Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohd Shafiq Abdullah.
Key highlights:
- Effective immediately from the date of the letter (20 July)
- Cost of treatment to be borne by the government up to a certain limit but the private sector is to complete the treatment
Transferred patients must receive due treatment with costs as stated in the following guidelines with the ceiling cost per patient as follows:
- Bed charges: The lowest available in the ward
- Surgery costs: RM45,000
- Non-surgery costs: RM25,000
- Follow-up costs: RM5,000
In addition, private hospitals must inform and seek approval from the ministry if:
- More than three follow-ups are required after discharge.
- They need to transfer patients to another private hospital.
