The Malaysia Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) has lodged a police report today (23 June) against the Health Ministry for not using Ivermectin to prevent the spread of Covid-19  in Malaysia. They claim that using the antiparasitic drug could have saved 2,300 lives.

PPIM lead activist, Datuk Nadzim Johan said that this is one of the initiatives by the group to fight for consumer rights to use alternative methods and treatment in preventing Covid-19.

“The Health Ministry’s refusal to consider the effectiveness of Ivermectin is a criminal offence as that had caused more than 2,300 Covid-19 patients to die in Malaysia,” said Nadzim.

He claims that the effectiveness of Ivermectin to reduce the risk of infection by 88% has been proven in numerous clinical trials.

Malaysian Alliance for Effective Covid Control (MAECC) has also been putting pressure on the Health Ministry to use Ivermectin outside of clinical trials but has not lodged a police report.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry noted that all Ivermectin registered in Malaysia is for animal use only and has not been proven for treatment of Covid-19.

The Health Ministry has been looking into testing Ivermectin since earlier this year.
