Padang Rengas Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz has emerged as the being “mastermind” who collected statutory declarations (SD) among Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs to support Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

Nazri, in an exclusive by Sinar Harian, admitted that he did it but added that it’s to make the Foreign Affairs Minister as a spokesperson for 25 BN elected representatives if they were called to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong rather than to push Hishamuddin as the next Prime Minister.

I can confirm the matter because I myself have been working on it for the past two weeks, after we were informed that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will call the party leaders again to Istana Negara starting June 9. The signatures of this SD involve 25 BN MPs out of a total of 41 people.

He explained the purpose of the SD was because they have lost confidence in the transparency of UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in representing the party when he was called to meet the King.

Recently, UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan admitted that there were efforts to collect SDs among MPs but it was to take over the government, according to reports from MalaysiaKini.

However, Ahmad Maslan claimed neither him nor his “friends” were approached to sign the document.
