Food is supposed to bring Malaysians together regardless of gender, race or creed.

But unfortunately for one potential customer of online bakery Thirty One Fine Bakes, race mattered.

The bakery, who operate from the COOKHOUSE at Seventeen but sell their cakes from their Instagram page, received a Whatsapp recently from someone who wanted to know what race the company owner is.

Thirty One Fine Bakes were quick to call out the blatant racism with screenshots on their Instagam.

They replied to the individual that they are a multiracial company and asked what the reason was for the question.

The individual then replied that they did not want to buy anything from a certain race.

What the individual was not expecting was an epic clap back:

The opinion that you have shared is racist and we simply have no tolerance for that. Racism and discrimination are deep-rooted diseases of this country, and we work to ensure there is no space for that in this company and to call it out when we see it. This company is a space for individuals to grow personally and professionally, without any prejudice. Because of your disgusting remarks, we are not sorry to say that we would be happy to lose you as a customer. All the best.

Thirty One Fine Bakes’ post has garnered close to 12k likes with over 600 comments including one from celebrated contemporary artist Red Hong Yi.

The bakery goes on to say in their Instagram post that they’ve received messages like that before and now realise that statements like it should not be kept hidden in the shadows.

There is no space here for this sort of hate.
