After more than a year since the pandemic hit our shores, the government has drafted a National Recovery Plan. It will be based on data, science, and all the necessary preparations.

The plan to have an exit plan was announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who also said that this was done in preparation for when the Covid-19 reaches reasonable levels.

“It is time we have a National Recovery Plan for us to get out of this problem but this is a big challenge, depending on the cooperation and support of all parties,” he after visiting the Mobile Vaccination Centre (PPV) at the Sri Johor People’s Housing Project (PPR), Bandar Tun Razak, yesterday (13 June).

The plan, like the National Vaccination Programme, will be done in phases.

Currently, some key ministers involved with the plan have already sat down with Muhyiddin to present the draft.

A vaccination registration deadline?

To put this plan into motion, Malaysia must first have its Covid-19 numbers under control. One of the methods mulled by the prime minister is to introduce a deadline for the Covid-19 vaccination registration programme.

The vaccination situation

As of yesterday, only 56.80% or 13,789,736 eligible Malaysians have registered for the vaccine. A total of 4,490,270 doses of the vaccine have been administered so far. Only 1,357,966 of the recipients have received the complete two doses.

Yesterday also marked the third day in a row that the National Vaccination Program missed the 150,000 vaccination per-day target that was set for June.

Of course, with the current situation and its timing, the announcement of the draft of the National Recovery Plan is met with scepticism.

And there are still a lot that is needed to be done in the current situation.

However, there are also those who gave a level headed response.
