As we enter the second day of total lockdown (June 2) it is reported that there were 126 recorded Covid-19 related deaths. This is the first time that the daily fatality count from Covid-19 reached the three-digit mark in Malaysia.

At the same time, it is reported that there are 878 patients in ICUs and 441 of them need ventilators. The highest recorded to date for both.

In total there have been 2,993 recorded Covid-19 related deaths since the beginning of the pandemic last year. This brings the percentage of deaths among Covid-19 patients to more than half-a-percent or 0.51%. The total confirmed cases so far is 587,165.

It was only a few days ago, on May 29, that Malaysians saw what we thought was the highest number of deaths at 98. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah marked that day as a dark moment for Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Selangor still recorded the highest number of infections with 2,728 cases followed by Kuala Lumpur with 701 cases. Perlis also has the lowest number of cases with only 1 followed by Putrajaya with 7.
