Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that five mega vaccination centres will be opened in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

He said this in a press briefing after visiting the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre which is being turned into a vaccination centre and talking to Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Three of these mega vaccination centres will open in Selangor. These locations are The Mines Convention Centre in Seri Kembangan, UiTM in Puncak Alam, and Setia City Convention Centre.

Two more mega vaccination centres will open at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), and Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

These mega vaccination centres will be operational on 7 June.

Khairy added that next week, he will be traveling to Penang and Johor to discuss opening mega vaccination centres there.

Regarding recent issues, he said that 500 GPs will begin vaccination on 15 June and 1,000 GPs by end of June. This also means by then, GPs and private hospitals would be able to administer 40,000 doses of vaccine per day.

When asked about drive through vaccination centres, Khairy said that after a successful pilot program at Malaysia Science University Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian, a guideline for such centres will be made available to all the states.

He noted that these drive-through vaccination centres, although convenient, are not as efficient as regular vaccination centres.

Those who get their shots will still need to be in a 15 minute observation period to ensure that they are safe to drive.
