The Health Ministry (KKM) may impose tighter Covid-19 SOPs for the state of Selangor if Covid-19 outbreaks continue.

KKM Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba agreed on plans for stricter SOPs in Selangor IF the Covid-19 situation there cannot be controlled.

“If the virus cannot be curbed, then the proposal for a full MCO might be something we can consider,” he said, as quoted by FMT.

Over 10,000 Covid-19 cases have been reported in Selangor over the past week.

Monday (17 May) saw 1,650 new Covid-19 infections in Selangor.

On Sunday, a total of 153,029 positive cases were reported in the state – with 4,951 active cases and 493 residents dead from the disease.

Dr Adham was also bothered by the increase of late-stage Covid-19 patients nationwide.

He explained that there were more patients coming in with Category 3, 4 or 5 of the disease as well as new variants of the coronavirus.

Previously, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed that there are four Covid-19 “variants of concern” identified in Malaysia.
