The Ministry of Education (MOE) will be abolishing the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) for Primary Six students from this year onwards.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said the decision was made based on the studies made and also engagement with stakeholders.

This marks the end of the national Primary Six examination after 33 years of existence. There will be no replacement examinations for UPSR.

Instead, Malay Mail reports that the assessment for Primary Six students will be carried out exactly like what was done last year (2020). Primary education will instead focus on strengthening classroom-based assessments beginning from 2021.

Application to secondary boarding schools will be assessed on three criteria – intellectual ability, soft skills and writing articulation skills.

Besides taking out UPSR, Form Three Assessment Test (PT3) for 2021 has also been canceled.
