It is common knowledge that the Malaysian government is still waiting for the ‘green light’ to open the Malaysia-Singapore border after it was closed early last year. Due to that, some Malaysians have not been able to return home for well over a year and are still in Singapore at this time.
Recently, McDonald’s Singapore released a heartbreaking video clip
The video is a story of Malaysians working in Singapore who have not been able to meet their beloved families for more than a year.
The nearly 3-minute long video has been uploaded to McDonald Singapore’s @mcdsg account on Instagram and garnered over 500 thousand views at the time of writing.
Unable to break fast at the same table with family
According to a Malaysian McDonald’s employee in Singapore, Samsuri, this year’s Ramadan is very different for him because he could not celebrate it with his wife, 2 year-old child and loved ones in Malaysia after the closure of the Singapore-Malaysia border last year.
He also thought of returning to Malaysia when his family was hit by disaster, such as when his father had a stroke, or their home was flooded and more. Still, he stays strong as he thinks of the commitment that needs to be borne.

The surprise twist and most heartwrenching moment was when McDonald’s came up with a brilliant idea where they did a ‘setup’ as if the family from Malaysia was sitting at the same table with them to break their fast.
It’s a truly emotional scene.
In any case, we hope that their families are given the strength to wait for the return of their beloved children/husbands.
