If you test positive for Covid-19 but are asymptomatic, you may be able to undergo your quarantine order for 10 days in the comfort of your home.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said today that Covid-19 patients categorised as levels One and Two will undergo treatment and quarantine at home while being monitored strictly by health workers.

According to the Health Ministry, Covid-19 Category One and Category Two cases are those identified as low risk and asymptomatic patients.

In the past, these types of patients have been placed at Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRC), such as the facility used at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS) in Serdang.

Dr Adham said a task force has been formed at the Crisis Preparedness and Emergency Response Centre (CPRC) at state and district levels to monitor patients quarantined at home.

He said staff from the ministry would assess the patient’s house size and the number of occupants before deciding if a patient may be treated at their respective places of residence.

If the home is deemed too small or too crowded, the patient will be taken to the hospital.

If the facilities at home are satisfactory, with sufficient space for isolation and the family understands the need for quarantine and the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the MOH..they will be treated at home.

Dr Adham explained that those quarantined at home will be isolated for 10 days and screened for Covid-19 at their home on the last day of quarantine. If their results come back negative, then they are free from Covid-19.

He added that full details on the home treatment and quarantine would be given by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah soon.

Patients with symptoms continue to be treated in hospitals

Meanwhile, Covid-19 positive patients with symptoms will still be monitored and treated in hospitals as usual.

We are doing this as we need to act fast in treating and isolating positive cases and to this end, the MOH will continue with the contact tracing in efforts to flatten the Covid-19 curve.

Previously the Health Ministry announced that it was considering implementing home quarantine for asymptomatic Covid-19 patients, seeing as our health facilities were becoming impacted by the constant four-digit increase in new cases daily.

The ministry then tweeted a simplified set of guidelines for those interested in undergoing their quarantine at home.
