“Time waits for no one, boy.” is something my grandfather always told me. He’d have me sit with him out on the balcony when we’d come to visit and tell stories from his yesteryears – his childhood, memories of his army days and all the times his kids gave him headaches with their antics growing up.

As a young adult, I never paid much attention to what he had to say. Time was never really a concern when you still had your whole life ahead of you.

Work and its endless responsibilities had usually taken precedence when social gatherings and outings could simply wait, and there’s always a “next time” for everything.

Then came 2020

Suddenly, time felt as if it had frozen still. The ticking hour hand meant little to nothing as we were stuck in quarantine between the busy job schedule and fearing for our lives or what’s in store for the future.

All the time spent in Covid-isolation, forced to keep away from loved ones, and how each passing moment that felt similarly mundane had slowly but surely eaten away at my soul – 2020 had definitely left its mark.

The gift that got me thinking

As Movement Control Order (MCO) restrictions were soon lifted and life continued on with the “new normal”, I finally had the chance to see the family again and it was during one of our small get-togethers that I received a gift that not only changed my outlook on 2020 but got me reflecting on my past, present and future.

My grandfather had gotten me an elegant Swiss-made Tissot Seastar wristwatch for my 28th birthday. “Time waits for no one, boy,” he said again with a smile, then continued on to tell more stories of his past and the times he spent with the people he adored.

It was soon after that I realised, the real gift he had given me wasn’t the brand new watch on my wrist, but instead, all the time that he had taken out of his years just to enjoy simple moments sharing stories with his grandson.

The truest gift you can ever receive is someone’s time

But if you’re still searching for the perfect gift this 2020, then the Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 is the timepiece you’re looking for.

Its combination of elegance, style and performance makes for an ideal present to brighten that special someone’s day. Plus, thanks to the revolutionary “Powermatic 80” movement, this timepiece is extremely accurate besides offering an 80-hour power reserve.

Take a trip back to yesteryear with the Tissot Seastar’s evocative 1950s’ stylings. This emerald-coloured timepiece was designed for water lovers and its robust design is excellent for those who enjoy venturing into the deep.
