In conjunction with the government’s agency-wide ongoing National Level Cashless Payment Campaign 2020, the National Registration Department (NRD) has declared Wednesdays as “cashless day”.

Announcing the move on Facebook, the NRD shared that this has already been implemented at all its state offices and Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) nationwide.

They stated that instead of using cash, customers are required to make their payments using debit and credit cards, cheques, and internet banking transactions via FPX.

It added that those who do so stand a chance of winning attractive prizes, including a Proton X70, a MyVi, a Yamaha Y15ZR V2, or a smartphone worth RM1,100.

Sinar Harian reported previously that the use of cashless payments were already implemented at NRD branches in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Terengganu since 2018, before being rolled out nationwide.

Meanwhile, according to RinggitPlus, the National Level Cashless Payment Campaign 2020 is a collaboration between the Finance Ministry and Payment Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) in an effort to encourage the use of cashless payments.

The campaign was launched in November 2020 and is set to continue until the end of April 2021. Participants stand to win prizes every month.
