Malaysia’s five top telecommunications companies; Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile and Telekom Malaysia (TM) will be rolling out “Special Data Packages” for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) candidates and provide mobile phones for students from low-income (B40) families.

According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the offer includes a pre-paid data pass of 15GB for 30-days at RM20 from 6 January till April 2021.

MCMC also said that students from B40 families can apply to receive a free mobile phone under the Learning From Home (LFH) program provided by the YTL Foundation, which includes a free SIM card with 40GBs worth of data.

The LFH program is an initiative introduced by YTL to provide students from public schools access to the internet during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period and school shutdowns.

Additionally, telcos would also provide free WIFI access at 130 Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) or low-cost housing projects across the country, until the end of April next year.
