Schools nationwide will be getting an internet upgrade of up to 800Mbps through the Government Integrated Telecommunication Network or MyGovnet, said Senior Minister (Education) Mohd Radzi Jidin.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, the Education Minister explained that the upgrade will start around the middle of 2021.
Those that are unable to connect via broadband due to location issues, they will be connected using Very-small-aperture terminals (VSAT) – or satellite internet access – starting February 2021.
These are some of the things that MOE is outlining, such as the digitization policy to look at the infrastructure, applications available and ensure that comprehensive efforts are made. This will take some time because when Covid-19 happened, we didn’t expect that such a situation would occur. He also said that during the tabling of Budget 2021, the government has set aside RM500 million under the JENDELA initiative and will involve 430 schools nationwide.
MOE has also been given an allocation by GLCs to provide 150,000 students in 500 schools and it is implemented through Yayasan Hasanah.
