Health D-G: Mandatory Quarantine Reduced To 10 Days For Travelers From Abroad And Close Contacts

The government has decided to reduce Malaysia’s mandatory Covid-19 quarantine period from 14 days to just 10 days starting today.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced the news yesterday, saying the shortened period applies to those returning from abroad and the close contacts of confirmed Covid-19 cases.
He said reducing the number of quarantine days was consistent with the latest clinical reports from around the world which have shown a decrease in infection risk throughout the quarantine period.
A recent review of clinical scientific evidence found that the risk of post-quarantine infection will decrease throughout the quarantine period. The infection rate is highest in the first week after exposure.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, several countries have already revised their mandatory quarantine period to follow the new evidence.
The United Kingdom, Germany and Belgium have reduced the quarantine period from 14 to 10 days while the mandatory quarantine period in France has been reduced to seven days.

France already revised their quarantine period in September, while Belgium and Germany followed suit in October and November, respectively. The UK only revised theirs two days ago.
