Ever since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March this year, life in Malaysia hasn’t been the same.

For the better part of this year, activities we enjoyed with the family or with friends on weekend and public holidays have become pretty much non-existant.

When was the last time you visited the shopping mall for a day out? Or went to watch a movie at the cinema? How about the zoo ? Yet, we’re online all day, every day.

With that in mind, Lazada has come up with the next best thing – a chance for Malaysians everywhere to visit Zoo Negara from the comfort and safety of their own homes through a virtual tour.

With Lazada Malaysia as our partner, we are able to explore platforms beyond traditional media to reach out to animal lovers and remain sustainable, such as through this live stream initiative on LazLive where we are able to provide free virtual tours to help raise funds and care for our animals in the zoo.

Virtual Tour of Zoo Negara

The virtual tour is set to take place on the Lazada app on 11 December, the eve of Lazada’s 12.12 Grand Year-End Sale.

From 10.30 am to 11.30 am, sit back and allow yourself to be entertained by Malaysia’s very own doctor-turned-comedian, Dr Jason Leong, who will be your host during the event.

During the LazLive virtual tour, Dr Jason will visit and showcase feeding sessions for an array of animals at the zoo, including Samba the lion, Vani the white tiger, Flash the cheetah, Choki the Sumatran orangutan, Sibol the elephant, and more.

At each animal’s enclosure, viewers are invited to donate to the zoo in real-time

It’s no secret that Zoo Negara has been having financial difficulties since March this year due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the implementation of the Movement Control Orders (MCOs) throughout the year, Zoo Negara wasn’t able to open their doors to receive visitors. Since they depend on ticket sales to fund their operation costs, the national zoo has been struggling to keep their animals fed and cared for all year.

With this in mind, Lazada is encouraging charity donations for the zoo by offering the first 50 donors of each location who donate RM25, a Lazada Wallet 12.12 rebate of RM25 to shop and enjoy ‘Buy 1, Get 2’ savings and discounts during the sale.

Meanwhile, charitable viewers that donate above RM50 will receive an “Adopt an Animal” e-certificate and voucher from Zoo Negara.

FYI, this isn’t Lazada’s first collaboration with Zoo Negara. The platform has allowed Zoo Negara to continue their business online by offering the zoo’s adoption packages on their website.

LazadaForGood makes charity as easy as online shopping

Christmas is a time for giving, and giving has become so much more important during this pandemic where people have not only lost their jobs but also their loved ones.

It has been a hard past few months for most Malaysians, hence for Lazada 12.12 this year, we hope to give back to the local community that we serve, by subsidising these LazadaForGood rewards in support of our non-profit organisation (NGO) partners who have been working tirelessly to help those in need and to assist our brave heroes on the front lines.

Leo Chow, Chief Executive Officer, Lazada Malaysia

Lazada has gone the extra mile to make giving super easy this festive season. They’ve basically made it as easy as shopping on their platform, as the LazadaForGood website lets you scroll through various charity options to pick and choose the one that speaks to your heart.
