Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor announced that the state has signed an agreement with a KL-based company to mine for rare earth elements (REE).
The element is said to be worth up to RM62 billion and was found in Sik, Ulu Muda, and Baling. According to Muhammad, this mineral has been common knowledge to geologists for the past 20 years.
However, the MB mistakenly announced that the rare earth is worth RM43 trillion while flashing a giant smile at the press conference.
God did not grant this mineral in all states. There is some in Perak, plenty in Kedah. This mineral, according to studies, is worth RM43 trillion, buried beneath our soil.

People immediately questioned the legitmacy of the annoucement, as the GDP for the whole of Malaysia in 2019 was only RM1.51 trillion. The MB’s office has since clarified the mistake, noting that the RM43 trillion figure refers to the estimated rare earth deposits for the whole of Malaysia.
The conversation also brings to mind Lynas, which has been the source of controversy in recent years.
Why is MB Kedah pretending as if the environmental damage from Bukit Merah and Lynas extraction mining didn’t happen?

Last I checked Islam teaches us to care for the environment as well, unless your God is money lah.
Actually, rare earth minerals are neither rare nor earth. They are actually soft metals that are relatively abundant in the earth’s crust, primarily used in modern technology- everything from television sets to your mobile phone.
While the minerals themselves are generally harmless and not radioactive, the actual processing of the elements can be rather dangerous.
