Now that the PS5 has officially been released for a few weeks, some gamers are finding that their spouses aren’t that easy to fool.

A man in Taiwan recounted his experience in trying to buy a second-hand PS5. While he was just trying his luck, he did find a listing for the PS5 to be sold urgently at a very low price.

To the untrained eye, the PS5 design does kind of look like an air purifier.

He immediately contacted the seller, a lady who sounded anxious to have the console sold and did not seem to care much for gaming.

However, once the man met up with the seller, the situation came to light.

With the lady was her husband, who looked absolutely miserable to sell off his PS5.

The buyer had asked why they were selling the console, questioning if perhaps they had accidentally ordered two.

Instead, the husband had replied in defeat that his wife had demanded he sell it.

Evidently, she had not been fooled by his attempts to disguise the console as an air purifier.

The next-generation Playstation console is the PS5, going at around RM2,000+ a pop. For a gaming console released at this time, it’s still pretty pricey, which has led to memes about gamers who will inevitably try to buy the console anyway under their spouse’s noses.

Months leading to the release of the PS5, strategies were being shared online on how to attempt to set it up in the house, with the most popular methods including disguising the console as an air purifier (due to its massive size) or a Wi-Fi extender (due to its odd tower-like design).

The ‘joke’ also shot to popularity thanks to this animated short that went viral last year.

Still, it’s a word of caution for anyone who might be thinking about disguising big-ticket purchases from your spouse: you’ll get found out, eventually.
