You Can Now Adopt Zoo Negara Animals On Shopee And Lazada
Adopt and help Zoo Negara feed their hungry animals!

In an attempt to raise funds to keep their animals fed, Zoo Negara has taken their business online and offered their adoption packages on several e-commerce platforms.
Now, you can adopt an animal at Zoo Negara off Shopee, Lazada, or the online ticketing system, Ticket2U.
Obviously, when we say adopt, we don’t mean Zoo Negara will punch some holes in cardboard box, load the animal in, and send it to you via Pos Laju.
Instead, Zoo Negara gives you the chance to be an animal saviour by contributing funds to make sure the animal gets the care it needs, including food, upkeep and veterinary care.
Depending on how much you contribute, adopters will also be acknowledged as the adoptive parent of the animal on Zoo Negara’s website and receive an adoption certificate.
Adopters also get a voucher that allows free admission for one child with one paying adult.
Why Does Zoo Negara Always Need Money?
Zoo Negara is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that depends on donations and ticket sales to cover their operating costs, which includes the maintenance of the animals.
This can amount to as much as RM1 million a month.
They have been underfunded for a while, and were hit hard by the Movement Control Order in March earlier this year.
Even though they received donations of RM1.3 million from the government in April, those funds only kept them afloat for about a month, with RM689,000 used to pay for panda insurance and the rest going for animal food and medical costs.

According to Zoo Negara Zoology, Veterinary & Giant Panda Conservation Centre Director Dr Mat Naim Ramli, who spoke to Bernama, the zoo was able to get by during the early stages of the MCO through their Adopt An Animal programme.
Then, during the Recovery MCO, revenue picked up.
Zoo Negara made RM450,000 in June, RM1 mln in July, RM1.3 mln in August and RM850,000 September, but only RM150,000 in October.

With fresh lockdowns being implemented nationwide in the past two months, the zoo is struggling again, and only have enough emergency funds to last three months.Â
Recently, Islamic preacher, Ebit Lew, answered the call for aid and donated 200kg of meat and 500kg of fruit and vegetables to feed Zoo Negara’s animals.
