If something is being sold on the internet for a price that’s too good to believe, you better check it once, read it twice, and think thrice about buying it.
A tweet had gone viral after it highlighted how a listing on an online shopping app for dummy display iPhones, selling at RM23, inevitably caught the eye of opportunistic shoppers.
Although the listing itself clearly states that the item is a dummy for display, plenty of customers were disappointed that the phones… do not work.
A surprising number of buyers left negative reviews on the listing, claiming problems such as the phone not being able to turn on. Most of the negative reviews called the item fraudulent.
One buyer even noted his disappointment that the dummy phone didn’t come with a charger!
Thankfully, not everyone were swept away by the excitement of a cheap phone. Many other buyers bought it for its intended use as a prop. One parent even got it to keep their child entertained.
Comprehension is crucial in daily life for various reasons, but in the case of online shopping, where goods are only portrayed through pictures and texts, it’s even more important to read carefully to make sure you know what you’re buying.
Not to mention the importance of common sense- what iPhone costs RM23?
