The pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks has once again returned to Malaysian shores.
This time, they’re back with two new additions to the PSL line just in time for November.
In case you’ve always been critical of “food trends” and never tried the Pumpkin Spice Latte, you may be wondering, what’s all the fuss around the PSL anyway?
I got the PSL in its Frappucino form for a warm balmy day. The first thing you will notice is that it smells sweetly of spices like cinnamon and cloves.
If you’ve ever spent autumn overseas with crisp dry red-and-orange leaves and chilly days, pumpkin-spiced everything is a staple part of the season. The drink will certainly bring back fond memories of those cool autumn days.
Those who are trying it for the first time will find the drink pleasantly flavourful, like masala chai but sweet.
The PSL does not actually taste like the actual vegetable. It may have a hint of pumpkin, but most of the taste comes from the spices and syrup.
As for whether or not the PSL is worth your time and money, it’s actually a resounding yes from me. Whether or not you have tried the PSL overseas before, the flavour is certainly a pleasant change from our usual flavoured drinks.
While Malaysians may not actually have a season of autumn to enjoy, the PSL is probably going to be the closest thing we can get now. What better time to pair it with a scented candle for a cozy night in?
